The Prairie Way
CICS Prairie is a K-8 public charter school nestled in the Roseland neighborhood on Chicago's South Side. Our school boasts a dedicated staff that prides itself on forming close relationships with parents and the surrounding community. For the 2015-2016 school year, CICS Prairie’s educational focus will shift towards a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) curriculum aimed to better prepare our students for college and careers. Student voice and choice will be a driving factor as middle school students will elect STEM related courses each quarter while still enjoying opportunities to engage in cross-curricular Problem Based Learning (PBL). In recent years, the percentage of CICS Prairie graduates accepted to CPS Selective Enrollment High Schools has steadily increased, rising to 47% in 2015.
The mission of CICS Prairie, in partnership with families and communities, is to develop our 21st century learners by providing authentic STEM education experiences through effective implementation of innovative and interactive learning programs. CICS Prairie inspires students and cultivates a passion for contributing to the greater good of the global community.
Our vision is to close the achievement gap by increasing the number of high achieving charter schools and consequently the opportunities for low-income children to succeed in school, in college, and in life. We rely on proven strategies and state-of-the-art technology to create rich learning environments for students and teachers, while making effective use of available resources.
